School Logo and School Song

BISDS School Logo

The Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School logo was designed by Mr. Wong Ying Weng and Mr. M. H. Albert. The logo consists of six colours (following the Buddhist Flag) namely: nila (blue), pita (yellow or golden colour), lohita (red), odata (white), manjettha (orange) and pabhassara (the mixture of the above colours).

The five symbols in the school logo denote the following:
01. Torch

The Torch represents the light of wisdom – to dispel the darkness of ignorance.

The Buddhist flag in the background is symbolic of the unshakeable spirit and determination of all Buddhists.

Book is the symbol of education. The Buddha himself emphasized the importance of understanding in learning. The aim of the Sunday School is not only to teach and educate but to learn and be educated as well.

The Blue background is a symbol of confidence – confidence in the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha. To inspire confidence in others, we must have confidence in ourselves.

The Wheel symbolizes the Noble Eight-Fold Path, in which a confident person could follow to attain full perfection.

School Song

The Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School Song known as “BISDS” was composed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the school in 1999. It highlights the school’s history, achievements, and vision, focusing on the motto “Panna Udapadi” meaning “Wisdom Appears.” The song encourages learning the Buddha’s teachings to overcome suffering caused by greed, hatred, and delusion.

It welcomes all to join as students or volunteer staff, emphasizing dedication and commitment. The school’s growth symbolizes its greatness, planting knowledge and happiness for future generations. The song inspires confidence and determination to follow the path of Lord Buddha, aiming for the ultimate goal of Nibbana.
