The Oil Lamp – 1st Place (Animation) at Vesak 2009 Film Festival Sri Lanka.
Posted on June 2nd, 2009 3 commentsThe BISDS’s entry entitled “The Oil Lamp” in the International short film competition of the Vesak 2009 Film Festival in Sri Lanka has won the 1st place in the animation category.
“The Abbot and the Orphan Episode 1 – The Shrine” received a merit award in the International Feature Film Exhibition.This is the link to the recently concluded event. Light Of Asia

i agree with bugs.it is not often that a buddhist grp wins an international prize.wonder why no effort to get it publicised in the media so that more people will be aware and really help to promote the dvd.
eagerly waiting for episode 3 to be launched. let us continue to unite to go all out to sustain the interested generated and complete all 8 episodes.with the help of bisds,staff and parents we can do it all for the good of buddha sasana.maha sadhu -

- Tom : According to the Chief High Priest of Malaysia K. Sri Dhammaratana Nayaka Maha Thera, the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be attending the Wesak Day celebrations at the Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple in Brickfields on May 28 this year. He will be the third prime minister who will be visiting the celebrations. The other 2 prime ministers who did so were Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

- Tom : KUALA LUMPUR: British chef and television personality Gordon Ramsay will be in town on Friday to cook up a special vegetarian dish for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and thousands of people visiting the Buddhist Maha Vihara in Kuala Lumpur for the Wesak Day celebration.

- Guest_703 : BISDS even had a traditional dance group which I was part of. I have no regrets joining the dance group even though most of my other guy friends would avoid it as it was considered “unmanly”. I view it from a different perspective. I am confident with my manliness therefore I do not need to shy away from something that many regard as “feminine”. Close minded people were.
- Guest_703 : I learnt Theravadan Buddhism there. Different classes would teach different things, such as Dhamma (teachings of the Buddha), life of the Buddha, Abhidhamma (advanced Dhamma), Jataka tales (previous lives of the Buddha), the Dhammapada (“Buddhist Bible”/Holy scriptures), chanting (as well as reading romanized pali text), singing and meditation. There were even certified exams. Specialized classes were made for these exams.
